One of the reasons I love being a website designer is primarily because I get to work with some really cool companies. I find it a pleasure and a challenge when a company entrusts me to promote their message online, or create their complete online business. I’ve had the privilege of working with brand new companies for whom I’ve created their logo, website and put their entire business online!

Just like the hockey finals or the Oscars and the Grammy’s, every year someone wants to show off their latest fashion, gadget or accessory. Some of these choices are popular and become a trend (dare I say “men with beards” or those crazy new hover boards…) and others simply fizzle away.

It seems that over the last decade, there has been an “arms” race between internet connection speeds and how many widgets and plugins web designers can load onto a website. All these affect how slow your website can be. It’s incredible to think that in the late 1990’s, when we started designing websites, we were connecting to the internet at speeds of 14.4 kb/s. To put that into perspective, it would take around 3 minutes to download an MP3 song. If Netflix was around back then, it would take you 72 DAYS to download a movie!

One thing all web designers and developers know is that there are certain rules or guidelines that need to be followed when creating websites. I always admire the ambition and creativity of my clients with requests such as extremely large font for displaying a promotion or get emailed tiny images to use as a full background or a little Flash mouse trailer with stars.
