Domains… Domains… Domains
With all my efforts, knowledge and energy I can muster, I hope this post reaches the millions of people who are probably in this situation.
Yet another call from a frustrated client who wants their website redesigned yet no idea where their domain is, who’s managing it or what email he used to register it. It seems like there are many people who over the years, lose track of probably the most important asset of their web business – THE ONLY THING THAT GETS YOU TO IT!!!
Luckily with this particular client, a simple fax to the current registrar with some ID, proof of ownership etc..etc.. and the domain was transferred but recently, I had a client who fit the same description as above but didn’t receive his 90, 60, 30, 10 and 5 day notice of the domain expiring and now, his website is home to one of those domain parking templates bearing a cute university student with a backpack (I know many of you out there are laughing right now!). For this client, it meant going back to the drawing board and coming up with a new domain name (which meant business cards, clothing, brochures and soooo much more!)
I don’t know about you but the first thing I offer my clients is management of their domains. That is, my info goes on the domain (I draft up an ownership agreement with the client showing who “really owns the domain). It’s a very simply service to offer and over the years, I’ve only received great feedback from my clients.
